Hanukkah Harry Came And Filled Our Bellies With Deli Food

The Snowdon Deli is a Montreal institution! I think it’s been there since 1949. My family is large and blended and one faction of have been going for Hanukkah/Christmas deli-style food stuffs for years- it’s an integral part of our nutty traditions. That along with a tacky holiday tree made of silver tinsel and LED lights. Thanks to CD, Lisa and Dave for an excellent Hanukkah!

Our haul: bagels, rye bread, tongue, carp, smoked salmon, cream cheese, liver pate, carmelized onions, mustard, eggplant puree, karnatzel, cucumber salad, party sandwiches, fruit salad and "the good cookies" and blue shopping bag tossed in for free!!

They have grocery store checkout divider bars separating orders on the counter top.

Good cookies are on the bottom left.

The Hanukkah Tree!

  1. MMMMMM! Before I came to Montreal, I had never eaten a latke or some matzo ball soup, being from an agnostic-pagan background in the Okanagan Valley, B.C. It has been so awesome to learn about, and even take part in Jewish culture, history and traditions here in our vibrantly inter-faith Montreal. The Snowdon Deli is such an amazing cultural and epicurial hub & your story caputures this so well. Fill your belly at Snowdon Deli!

  2. MTL is an awesome food town, for sure. However, I am super-intrigued as to what an Okanagan Valley-style agnostic-pagan feast would be like!
